Our mission
Sea turtles have crossed the world’s oceans for more than a hundred million years, yet most species are now threatened. The hours after a female comes ashore to nest are some of the most decisive in a turtle’s life: a nest that is found and protected in time has a far better chance than one left exposed to predators, tides, and human activity.
TortugaTracks exists to make that nesting activity visible, quickly and at scale. Every turtle that comes ashore leaves a distinctive track in the sand. Those tracks are a record of where nests are โ if someone can read them in time.
What we do
We use AI to recognise sea-turtle tracks from beach imagery, so the people protecting nests spend less time searching and more time acting. By turning drone and field imagery into mapped, classified detections, we help conservation teams cover more beach, more often, with the resources they already have.
What guides us
- Conservation first. Every design choice serves the people and turtles on the beach.
- Greenest by default. Our infrastructure runs on EU data centres powered by renewable energy.
- Privacy and security by design. We collect as little data as possible and protect what we hold.
